Wingate church of Christ held its first service on June 18, 1950 under the sponsership of the Grandview church of Christ. These men saw a need for an additional church in the Woodbine area to help accommodate the increasing number of Christians in this area, and to expand the scope of the Lord's work. Sixty-one were present for the first service, and some of these still attend regularly. As fellowship is one of the defining characteristics of the New Testament Church, Wingate has always endeavored to be in the forefront in that pleasant and joyous function. Early in 1997, it was decided that a large Activity Center was needed to accommodate the needs of the congregation. On Sunday, July 13th, the Activity Center was dedicated to the glory of God.Wingate has spear headed or been a vital part of many great evangelistic efforts in our city; the "Collins & Craig" auditorium meeting, "Let Freedom Ring" campaign, "Unite in Christ" campaign, and the "Reach Up" campaign. Wingate was the home of the Great Commision School for over a quarter of a century.
The overall commitment of the Wingate congregation is to reach out to people with the message of God's love and grace as experssed in the Bible, to serve God in our daily lives, and to give glory to His name through service in the Kingdom of His Son!

The New Testament tells us that the church began on the day of Pentecost. Following the example of the apostles, we also seek to proclaim the gospel of Christ in the same spirit of love.
Classes for all ages are available on Sunday morning, and Wednesday evening using the Bible - the inspired Word of God. Families are also encouraged to seek the truth through personal study.
While visitors are always welcome when we assemble, a Bible study in your home can be arranged. We want everyone to share in the love of Christ.
Opportunities arise daily to help in terms of food, clothing, shelter, and other physical needs. We stand ready to assist by answering these calls. We also reach out to others through our missionaries and Disaster Relief, both at home, and abroad.
While we enjoy physical growth, we hope to grow spiritually through study, prayer, fellowship, service, and sharing. Each year we encourage each of our members to read the Bible daily. II Timothy 2:15
